Threats to the Arctic Tundra
Threats to the Arctic Tundra include:
- Global warming - because of global warming, permafrost in the Arctic Tundra is melting and dramatically influencing the species that can live there. Global warming is caused by harmful exhaust from factories and motor vehicles.
- Ozone depletion - There is ozone depletion at the North Pole, and because of this, stronger ultraviolet rays are harming the tundra.
- Pollution - Smog clouds contaminate lichen, a major food source for animals in the tundra.
- Oil spills - oil spills can kill wildlife and damage ecosystems. Spills are often caused by human error.
- Invasive species - invasive species push out native species and limit the diversity of life in the tundra.
